Fiji

15 Metuisela Talebula 7/10 Spent 10 minutes at scrum-half but grew into game in usual full-back position. Trapped one kick with wonderful footwork. One to watch.

14 Waisea Nayacalevu 6/10 Hardly involved and then gave a penalty away when he tried to be. Eclipsed by Fiji’s other wing but ensured May was kept under wraps.

13 Vereniki Goneva 5/10 In truth he has not been on form for a while, enduring a disappointing season after such a dazzling 2013-14 campaign. Anonymous.

12 Gabiriele Lovobalavu 6/10 An attempted flicked pass did not work but made a huge hit on Watson and one curious crossfield kick. Did not lose many battles.

11 Nemani Nadolo 8/10 Blubbed his way through the national anthem then bashed away at England’s defence. Superb take for his try but missed key penalties.

10 Ben Volavola 8/10 A jittery start, fumbling Ford’s early kick, and was poor from the tee. Out of hand, though, his kicking was a delight. Bags of potential.

9 Nikola Matawalu 6/10 Just not his night. Wonderful score ruled out and was deemed culpable for the penalty try, spending 10 minutes in the sin-bin as a result.

1 Campese Ma’afu 7/10 A barrelling prop who turned Lawes over with worrying ease. John McKee was not lying when extolling Fiji’s improve set piece beforehand.

2 Sunia Koto 6/10 Mindless lineout throw that led to Brown’s score. Held his own as Fiji came back into it but tired as England put on the squeeze.

3 Manasa Saulo 7/10 Ensured Fiji scrum held its own throughout. Some performance considering he was working on a sugar plantation just over a year ago.

4 Apisalome Ratuniyarawa 5/10 Lucky to avoid a yellow card after hitting a ruck without using his arms. Fronted up but was hooked at half-time and was not missed.

5 Leone Nakarawa 7/10 Glimpses of his outrageous talent with ball in hand but his best work was done in defence. Came with big reputation and backed it up.

6 Dominiko Waqaniburotu 7/10 Heaped the pressure on Tom Youngs by pinching his first lineout and particularly solid defensively – even if England allowed him to be.

7 Akapusi Qera (capt) 8/10 A couple of bull-dozing runs from the former Gloucester flanker and was ever present at the breakdown. Forced key turnover on the hour.

8 Sakiusa Masi Matadigo 7/10 One huge hit forced a turnover in the first half but, like Morgan, he was not an attacking threat. Kept plugging away, though.

REPLACEMENTS Cavubati (for Ratuniyarawa, h-t) Yato (for Waqaniburotu, 60) Colati (Saulo, 77) Talemaitoga (Koto, 75) Ravai (Ma’afu, 75) Not used Kenatale Matavesi Tikoirotuma

England

15 Mike Brown 8/10 One awful high kick but his intervention that denied Matawalu was magnificent. Two sharp finishes and made some important breaks from deep. Impressive.

14 Anthony Watson 6/10 Took a majestic high ball against his enormous opposite number but was outdone by Nadolo when it mattered. Too often ran out of room.

13 Jonathan Joseph 7/10 Silky if not at his Six Nations best. Showed delightful hands twice in quick succession – Watson did not make it over but Brown did.

12 Brad Barritt 5/10 Surprisingly off colour. Gave away a silly penalty and was turned over. Relished the challenge of tackling Nadolo at full pelt, though.

11 Jonny May 6/10 Arrived as the form man but did not have a run until right on half-time. Barely had a sniff in second half but offloaded for Brown’s second.

10 George Ford 6/10 Played with poise in the first half but again England were not direct enough under his command. Did enough to keep his place.

9 Ben Youngs 6/10 An odd start on his 50th appearance, allowing the ball to bounce from kick-off before loose opening pass. Box-kicking was indifferent.

1 Joe Marler 5/10 Did not scrummage well in Paris and could not exert authority here. England need him firing against Wales but he is not there yet.

2 Tom Youngs 8/10 Went to the back with first lineout and it was stolen but recovered thereafter and trucked it up for opening try. So useful around the park.

3 Dan Cole 6/10 Always works hard in the loose but must take share of the blame for scrum wobbles. Was not as effective at the breakdown as he can be.

4 Geoff Parling 8/10 Took command of England’s restarts and brings a steady hand on the tiller. A performance that justified his coach’s faith.

5 Courtney Lawes 7/10 England’s line speed was fast and no one was quicker than Lawes. Produced no typical big hits but that is credit to the opposition.

6 Tom Wood 8/10 So much dirty work from the Northampton flanker. His return to form after minimal Six Nations involvement is a huge positive.

7 Chris Robshaw (capt) 6/10 Will always make his tackles and should be commended for early kicks to corner. Looks far better with Billy Vunipola on the field.

8 Ben Morgan 5/10 Quiet. Stuart Lancaster says he is the fittest member of the squad but he did not look it on this evidence. Under pressure from Vunipola.

REPLACEMENTS M Vunipola (Marler, 52); Launchbury (Parling, 52); B Vunipola (Morgan, 52); Wigglesworth (B Youngs, 52) Farrell (Ford, 62) Burgess (Barritt, 62) Brookes (Cole, 69) Webber (T Youngs, 75)
