ENGLAND

15 MIKE BROWN 7/10 His previous game at Twickenham ended with a sore head but happily he made a full recovery. Good under the high ball and some typical mazy runs.

14 ANTHONY WATSON 6/10 One great second-half run but had few opportunities to test the defence. He was sound, if unspectacular.

13 JONATHAN JOSEPH 7/10 The Bath centre has made an explosive start to life in the Six Nations and took his try with more deft footwork. A constant threat.

12 LUTHER BURRELL 6/10 Butchered the best of those early try-scoring chances and has not been as effective as he was 12 months ago.

11 JACK NOWELL 7/10 The Exeter wing’s display in Dublin was one of the few positives for Stuart Lancaster and again he looked England’s sharpest back.

10 GEORGE FORD 7/10 The fly-half kept his head to take his try after the break and mixed his game up well after a sobering afternoon in Dublin. Good place-kicking.

9 BEN YOUNGS 7/10 Looked much more effective after the interval when he was presented with more quick ball by his pack. Effective pairing with Ford.

1 JOE MARLER 6/10 Penalised a couple of times at scrums and did not have it all his own way against Euan Murray but worked tirelessly and tackled well.

2 DYLAN HARTLEY 6/10 Discipline will always put a question mark against his name but nobody queries his effectiveness in the close-quarters exchanges.

3 DAN COLE 6/10 When push comes to shove he still has few equals as a tighthead. Another powerful scrummaging display but lucky not to be shown a yellow card.

4 DAVE ATTWOOD 6/10 The Bath man had an effective 50 minutes before being replaced by Geoff Parling. His place in the second row looks secure and he’s good in set pieces.

5 COURTNEY LAWES 8/10 Back in the second row in place of the unlucky George Kruis, the Northampton lock played as if he had never been away. A towering presence.

6 JAMES HASKELL 6/10 Unable to match his performance in Cardiff since that Friday night but worked tirelessly. Will come under pressure for his place from Tom Wood.

7 CHRIS ROBSHAW capt 7/10 He lifted the Calcutta Cup again and played a captain’s role after an off-key afternoon in Dublin he was much more effective at the breakdown.

8 BILLY VUNIPOLA 7/10 He has had a fine Six Nations after replacing the injured Ben Morgan. The Saracen was England’s best ball-carrier and had another excellent game.

REPLACEMENTS: Tom Youngs (Hartley 50) Pepped up a dominant English scrum 6; Mako Vunipola (Marler 60) Made some bullocking runs 6; Kieran Brookes (Cole 60) Solid in the scrum 6; Geoff Parling (Attwood 50) Good return after run of injuries 6; Tom Wood (Haskell 60) Decent spell 6; Richard Wigglesworth (Ben Youngs 60) Looked sharp 6; Danny Cipriani (Brown 77) No time to make a point N/A

SCOTLAND

15 STUART HOGG 7/10 His pace allowed him to clip Mike Brown’s heels early on and he was key to stopping the opening England onslaught. Excellent evening.

14 DOUGIE FIFE 6/10 Prevented another early try with a brave tackle and had his hands full with the runs from deep of Jack Nowell. A tidy display by the Edinburgh wing.

13 MARK BENNETT 6/10 Took his try superbly in Scotland’s first real attacking opportunity and caught the eye in the first half. Lots of defensive work in the second.

12 MATT SCOTT 6/10 The training injury to Alex Dunbar broke up the Glasgow midfield axis but Scott was a forceful presence in the backline in his 40 minutes on the field.

11 TOMMY SEYMOUR 6/10 The left wing has had a good Six Nations and made two or three dangerous runs but was starved of the ball after the break.

10 FINN RUSSELL 5/10 Scotland missed his invention against Italy but his return after suspension was not successful. He was unable to control the game.

9 GREIG LAIDLAW capt 6/10 Had trouble controlling the threat of Ben Youngs but looked his usual lively self when he had the ball. A tough match for the Gloucester man.

1 ALASDAIR DICKINSON 6/10 A solid display but Ryan Grant will come into contention against Ireland as Vern Cotter looks for that elusive win.

2 ROSS FORD 6/10 Did all the basics well but struggled along with the rest of the pack to cope with the powerful England forwards. Worked tirelessly.

3 EUAN MURRAY 6/10 The veteran prop had an effective evening in the set-piece before being replaced by Geoff Cross 15 minutes after the interval.

4 JIM HAMILTON 6/10 The Saracen was recalled to add some power to the engine-room and was forceful in the scrum before and effective at the breakdown.

5 JONNY GRAY 6/10 The younger of the Gray brothers has cemented his place in the second row and made some good carries in the first half.

6 ROBERT HARLEY 5/10 Made important tackles and was solid enough but unable to reproduce his outstanding form for Glasgow. Worked hard for an hour.

7 BLAIR COWAN 7/10 The London Irish flanker has given away a hatful of penalties in the Championship but foraged well and played important part in Bennett’s try.

8 DAVID DENTON 5/10 The Zimbabwe-born No8 returned to the side to give more ball‑carrying threat but looked off the pace and eclipsed by Billy Vunipola.

REPLACEMENTS: Fraser Brown (for Ford 60) Solid display by the Glasgow man 6. Ryan Grant (Dickinson 60) Decent 20 minutes 6. Geoff Cross (Murray 54) Struggled in the scrum 5. Tim Swinson (Hamilton 35) Effective in the loose after nasty tumble on head 6. John Beattie (Harley 48) Looked sharp in back row 6. Adam Ashe (Denton 54) Did enough to earn starting place 6 Sam Hidalgo-Clyne (Russell 72) Little time to shine. Greig Tonks (Scott ht) Good defensive display for half the game 6
