First-half goals from Nikita Parris and Ellen White secured a 2-1 victory for England Women in their World Cup opener against rivals Scotland on Sunday.
The Lionesses were much the better side in the first half and went in front after VAR intervened to award a penalty after Fran Kirby's cross brushed the arm of Nicola Docherty.
Parris finished well from 12 yards before Ellen White's smart effort past Lee Alexander doubled the advantage.
Scotland improved after the break and Manchester City's Claire Emslie halved the deficit to set up a tense final 10 minutes for Phil Neville's side.
Lisa Evans capped a fine driving run with a cute pass to play Emslie in on goal and the 25-year-old's effort was lifted high into Karen Bardsley's net via a deflection.
