England will become the first team in international football history to play 1,000 matches when they take on Montenegro in their penultimate Euro 2020 qualifier at Wembley on Thursday.
In a sign of the thrills to come, the first ever international saw Scotland and England play out a 0-0 draw at Hamilton Crescent, Partick, in November 1872.
Over 147 years, and 999 games, 1244 different men have pulled on the England shirt in full internationals, and that number could grow before the 1,000th game is done, should Dean Henderson, Fikayo Tomori or James Maddison make their international bows.
