James Trafford A quiet debut for the Manchester City goalkeeper – until he was beaten by Fede Valverde’s equalising penalty 6

Tino Livramento Untroubled in defence. Supported the attack with energetic runs but the connections were lacking. 6

Harry Maguire Solid on his return to the international scene. Some booming passes and a set-piece threat. 6

Fikayo Tomori Unruffled on his first England appearance since November 2023 but the Uruguay attack was toothless. 6

Djed Spence Fine defensively but a right footer at left-back was a familiar issue. Kept checking back. 6

Jordan Henderson Occasionally bypassed in midfield and offered little on the ball before going off at half-time. 5

James Garner The Everton midfielder delivered some dangerous corners and did not disgrace himself on his debut. 6

Noni Madueke Won some corners but often hung on to the ball too long. Went off injured. 6

Phil Foden Failed to deliver as the No 10 and will be worried about his World Cup place. 5

Marcus Rashford Livened up the crowd with one run but mostly dribbled down dead ends. Underwhelming night. 5

Dominic Solanke Tested Fernando Muslera from long range and worked hard without ever looking likely to score. 6

Subs Jarrod Bowen (for Madueke 38) Quiet after replacing Madueke on the right. 6; Adam Wharton (for Henderson ht) Offered urgent passing and a block on a Uruguay defender for the goal. 6; Cole Palmer (for Foden 56) A lively cameo was crowned by him delivering the corner for the winner. 7; Dominic Calvert-Lewin (for Solanke 56) Headed wide from a Palmer free-kick. 6; Ben White (for Tomori 69) Booed when he came on, scored, got booed again, gave away a penalty after a harsh VAR call. Odd. 6; Harvey Barnes (for Rashford 69) 6; Lewis Hall (for Spence 69) 6; Kobbie Mainoo (for Garner 69) 6
