Engineering excellence rewarded on the Humber

World-class work has been celebrated within the Humber chemical engineering sector.

Grimsby-based Engie Fabricom collected the Team Award at the IChemE Global Awards as it came to Hull, in the city where the exemplar project it recognised was carried out.

A temporary flare system was developed from conceptual design for Nippon Gohsei’s Saltend plant, allowing continuous business operations through an essential maintenance shutdown, while providing the highest level of plant integrity and process safety.

Richard Webster, chief executive of ENGIE Fabricom UK said: “It is an absolute honour to receive this award and to be recognised for our efforts. This is a testament to the team’s continued hard work and commitment to the high standard of services delivered in every project we work on.

“We were nominated together with some of the best companies within this industry sector. Our values of professionalism, integrity, trust and team spirit, alongside the quality of our skilled workforce, puts us in a unique position as we continue to build on our reputation for providing innovative solutions for our clients to achieve their objectives without sacrificing on the key principles of quality and safety.”

Working with the client on its ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer plant, technology was provided by Zeeco, and with the operational support of Ineos, it transferred through detailed engineering, construction and commissioning.

The end product, branded SoarnaL, is a food-wrap film, which “offers innovative food-packaging technology by shutting out oxygen to prevent decomposition and the growth of mold, while maintaining transparency” according to the company.  Further uses for different grades include bottles, pipes and even fuel tanks.

The award was presented at Hull’s DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.
