Engineer roles going at Jaguar Land Rover - In the week 11/04/11

Hospitality apprenticeship: Travelodge has launched a budget hotel management apprenticeship programme for school leavers. The hotel chain is looking for its first 50 apprentices for the scheme, called JuMP (Junior Management Programme), which offers a fast-track route into management. Successful candidates will go on to gain formal qualifications and experience in hotel management, retail, operations, marketing and customer service, according to a press release from the company.

Care: A business offering home-based care for the elderly could create up to 40 new jobs in Hampshire. The new franchise of Home Instead Senior Care will provide personal helpers for the vulnerable to allow them to remain at home instead of going into full-time care. The owners are currently looking to recruit care workers to provide the services required, reports the Hampshire Chronicle.

Engineering: Jaguar Land Rover has announced plans for 1,000 jobs in the West Midlands. The company said the jobs would be created for engineers over two years, reports the BBC. A spokeswoman said the company would recruit for the engineer jobs throughout 2011 and 2012 and would also hire a "significant number" of people in other departments, including finance and purchasing.

IT: Business communications group Avaya will create up to 70 new jobs in Ireland. The firm provides communication systems, contact centres, data solutions and related services to businesses. The Galway-based jobs, all in IT, are expected to be filled by the end of the year. Avaya will be recruiting software engineers, developers, programmers and managers, reports the Irish Times.

Retail: John Lewis has announced it is set to create 160 new jobs at a new store in Newbury. The John Lewis at home store, which focuses on furniture and homeware, is due to open in 2012 at the town's new Parkway development, according to the BBC.

Construction: One of the UK's biggest private construction companies will take on around 300 new staff in 2011 to meet an upturn in work, reports the Telegraph. Wates Group has a house-building arm and fits out shops for retailers. Other projects include a renovation of Birmingham Town Hall and constructing Chelsea Academy.
