Engagement ring sales boom during coronavirus pandemic

Love has blossomed amid the Covid-19 pandemic, as engagement ring sales have increased since lockdown.

Sales of diamond engagement rings were up during March, April and May compared with the same period in 2019, according to celebrity favourite Voltaire Diamonds in Dublin.

Clients over the years have included Rosanna Davidson, Karen Koster and Pippa O’Connor.

And 82% of Voltaire Diamond clients during lockdown were selecting engagement rings, compared with 61% last year.

Seamus Fahy, founder of Voltaire Diamonds, said couples were able to select the perfect rings through private appointments or video conferencing.

He said: “Asking for your hand in marriage in exotic locations was not in possible March, April and May.

“However, based on sales ‘Will you marry me?’ was asked more times this spring than in 2019.”
