Dublin woman spots girl on train, slides into her Instagram DMs and they end up falling in love in amazing Twitter post

You always hear about love at first sight and people catching eyes on trains, planes, in the streets and on buses but you never hear much happening about it afterwards.

But Lydia Furey from Kildare and Emma Roche from Donabate are real life cases that smiling at the person you fancy could be well worth it.

The girls locked eyes on the carriage floor of a train from Connolly to Drogheda - and have been infatuated with each other since.

Lydia told Dublin Live that she was drunk in love from the moment she clocked eyes with Emma.

She said: "I was on a train to my best friend's house and was sitting on the carriage floor. I was slightly more tipsy than I'd care to admit."

"A beautiful blonde was on my carriage and she had caught my eye from the moment I had sat down."

Lydia, playing it cool, decided not to "be creepy and stare her out of it" but as Emma left the train, the Dubliner gave her "the look".

"It was the first time Emma had ever sent a private message to a stranger. It was fate."

It turned out that Emma and Lydia had followed each other on Twitter and Instagram for a while but didn't notice.

"I realised she was the girl who had previously commented on one of my Instagram posts a few weeks before and at the time I was delighted.

"I replied to her message and we agreed to meet up at some point. We kept speaking through WhatsApp and after a week, we met up."

But, there was a sad twist in this love story, Emma was engaged to a man.

"She broke that news to me face to face when we met up and my heart sank. We spent the whole day and night together until she had to catch her last train home.

"We went to a museum, got food and drinks and went for a nice walk but I thought I didn't have a chance because of the situation."

After their "not so date, that was definitely a date", Lydia was "proper ghosted" but there was a reason for it.

"I thought I had messed it up but I found out later that Emma didn't talk to me because she had caught feelings and didn't know what to do."

"We continued to spend time together as friends but deep down, we knew we loved each other. Emma will even admit that when she first met me, she knew she wanted to be with me forever.

However, the blossoming of their relationship also meant the break-up of another.

"The engagement bit was difficult for everyone involved. She broke it off and they stayed friends of course because they had been together for a long time and had a strong relationship."

"Soon after, Emma welcomed me into her home and we moved in together.

"We've had our ups and downs and worked through them all, we've even spent some time apart.

"But right now as we speak, we're having some breakfast together and we're madly in love, happy out."

A love story for the modern ages.
