Enforcement officers to return to Nottinghamshire streets in bid to stop dangerous parking

Enforcement officers will be returning to the streets to crackdown on dangerous parking across Nottinghamshire.

Nottinghamshire County Council said officers will "always encourage" drivers, if they are present, to move their vehicles if they are parked unsafely or dangerously.

But penalty charge notices will be issued where this is not possible.

The authority added some of the more serious examples of poor parking in recent days have led to complaints, including parked vehicles obstructing roads which could delay emergency service vehicles and those of key workers.

County council leader, councillor Kay Cutts, said: “During the lockdown, parking enforcement has only been required very occasionally and I would like to thank the vast majority of motorists for parking carefully and considerately during this time.

“As businesses are starting to return, traffic flows are increasing and there is growing evidence that enforcement is now required to ensure the safety of all highway users.

"I would like to remind drivers to continue to be considerate and respectful of parking restrictions as more cars return to our roads.”

Gary Wood, group manager for highways at Nottinghamshire County Council, added: “We have continued to review our levels of parking enforcement to follow government guidelines.

“The safety of our staff and residents is always our primary concern, and enforcement officers will be abiding by social distancing guidelines and in accordance with approved safety protocols.

“If you see one of our officers in your community, please remember to keep social distancing in mind.”
