Enes Kanter harassed after praying at mosque in Cambridge

While attending mosque in Cambridge, Mass. on Friday, Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter was accosted by multiple men — whom Kanter says “attacked and threatened” him after prayers he attended with fellow Celtics center Tacko Fall.

Both Kanter and Fall are followers of Islam. However, Kanter has been targeted by the Turkish government for his outspokenness and opposition to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whom he has described as a dictator leading an authoritarian government that condemns free speech and other human rights.

Much of the dialogue may be difficult to decipher but Kanter was obviously discomforted by the spectacle.

Kanter’s clash with the Turkish government is well-documented and if Friday is any indication, the story is far from over. One can only hope for the best for Kanter in this situation, who has raised awareness about the issue through his use of media and conversations he’s held with U.S. politicians at nearly all levels of government.
