Energy-saving TikTok hack shows 'sad' reality as crisis continues

A TikTok sharing a hack on how to save money on energy has gone viral - but many have hit back saying it's 'sad'.

As Ofgem announced the price cap will rise by 80 per cent on October 1, forcing the average yearly energy bill to jump to £3549. With this, many are looking at ways to save money.

In the video, it shows a shower with the caption telling people to shower at the gym to save on energy.

The account, Cost of Living Tips wrote: "Start showering at the gym or work. It saves you money. Free soap as well. Beat the price hike."

Of course, this would require a gym membership, or payment to enter the gym.

It's not the only account issuing the advice, with the hashtag moneysavingtips accumulating 575.8 million views and energysavingtips has 245.8k views.

The post gathered 31.1k likes, over 200 comments and with nearly 800 saves, it suggests many are saving the hack to remind them when their next energy bill lands.

One commented: "It's sad that this is what life has come to."

"That's sad that people have to do this," a second echoed.

Another said: "We're living in dystopia."

"Until everyone does this and your monthly membership triples," one warned.

"I've said this for a while, as well as using their hair dryers. Sad life this has come to, to be honest," another interjected.

But another commented: "My work doesn't have them and I've had to cancel my gym membership because I can't afford it."

To which the account replied: "I'll try and thing of a place where you can get a free shower."
