Energy meter reader mauled to death by savage dogs in garden of home he was visiting

A man has been mauled to death by a group of savage dogs in a "terrible" attack at a property in Queensland, Australia where he was reading meters.

Emergency services were called to a home in Greenbank on Saturday morning after a man was found unconscious in the garden of someone else's home.

Kane Minion, 42, had been sent out to read a meter box at a house when three Bull Arabs attacked him.

Mr Minion was found in a critical condition but sadly died at the scene.

Greenbank is a rural suburb about 40km south of Brisbane with a population of less than 10,000.

Police found three dogs in the garden, but there are conflicting reports about whether the homeowners were present or not, with some outlets saying they were and others saying not.

Acting Inspector Gary Worrell told reporters: "It’s also a difficult time for the owners of the residence, who are attached to their dogs."

A spokesperson for the energy company Downer Group confirmed Mr Minion worked for their business.

A spokesperson said details of the incident are still being examined and a police investigation is underway but they are extremely saddened by the tragic loss.

"Kane has worked with Downer's Skilltech metering business for more than seven years and was a popular member of the team", a statement read.

Acting Inspector Gary Worrell said Work Safe Australia understands Energex has a "very good" system where they email and communicate with the owners of known places where dogs are used for the protection of family homes or where they know there are aggressive dogs.

Given the protocol, the tragedy should have been prevented and neighbour Kevin Cunnington described the man's death as "tragic."

He continued: "It's terrible, right before Christmas, poor bloke doing his job and now he's dead."

Police have confirmed that they located three dogs in the garden that were handed over to local council animal control officers.
