Energy firm Centrica has shamed itself with Scottish call centre job cuts and farcical excuses

Centrica’s farcical handling of job cuts would be hilarious if it wasn’t so insulting to the hundreds of people losing their livelihoods.

The British Gas owner has made 406 posts redundant at its smart home device arm Hive.

It’s a hammer blow that has caused real pain in the city.

But managing director Claire Miles didn’t have the decency to show up at the Glasgow office to make the announcement herself.

Initially, staff were told she had overslept after staying up late dealing with media inquiries and hadn’t made her flight up from London.

The Hive technology is central to the future of the business yet they are outsourcing these jobs and making skilled workers redundant.

Bullying in the Armed Forces must not be tolerated and cannot go unchecked

A company as big as Centrica should really take some responsibility for its own actions.

And it should also show some commitment to its local workforce.
