Enea Bastianini laments “worst race” of his MotoGP career at British GP

MotoGP KTM Tech3 rider Enea Bastianini described the British GP as the “worst race” of his career as he lamented what had been a “very complicated day”.

Bastianini started from 17th on the grid, and classified 17th amid the gusty Silverstone conditions.

“It has been a very complicated day for me today, because I would try to do something on the bike, but nothing. It is impossible for me to push.

“It has been very frustrating for me. Probably my worst race of my career from my side.

“I thought many times to go to the box during the race, but at the end, I closed the race for everybody, for me and for the team. But to be honest, I’m not happy for [anything].”

The Italian rider continued: “At the moment, I’m the worst rider on the track. I think KTM needs to do something for me for my future, because like this, it’s impossible to continue, no?”

He also had trouble with the front ride height device, saying he had gone the whole first lap with the device activated.

“From my side, probably if today I was with the bike from when I arrived, it was better. At the end, the bike doesn’t turn, and the electronics don’t work. This is the problem.”

Bastianini was not alone in his struggles, as Factory KTM rider Brad Binder dubbed the race “horrendous”. The South African racer finished in 14th, having started from the 19th spot on the grid.

“That was horrendous,” he told media after the race. “I have so much shaking down the straights and from corner to corner that I kept rolling the gas in the straights, which is never a good thing.

“Just really missing a lot of confidence, especially with the front. I felt fine when I was behind somebody and it took a bit of temperature, but as soon as I’d be alone, I literally felt like I couldn’t crank the bike over because the front would just wash the whole time.

“Even going slowly, I had moments where I was lucky to not have crashed.

When asked where he and the team can go from here, he responded: “It’s not ideal for sure. Don’t get me wrong, I mean, fuck me, I know I’m not meant to be racing in 15th position, but it is what it is right now. That’s literally my level.

“So, a little bit tricky. I need to find some confidence again, and I’m sure we’ll figure it out.”
