Endura Hummvee 2023 – the classic MTB shorts get a revamp

A man wearing MTB shorts

If you could only own one pair of MTB shorts, Endura's hardwearing and versatile Hummvee would definitely be a serious contender. These classic baggies have been around for decades and with Endura sticking to the 'if it ain't broke...' mantra, they have changed little in that time. I've owned several pairs of Hummvee shorts over many years of MTB riding and they've always been a really well put together option that's rugged, super durable, looks good, and come at a keen price.

While the original version was developed for cycle couriers and adopted by mountain bikers, 2023 sees the Hummvee shorts getting only their second redesign in 20 years. The latest edition has been updated in terms of styling, colorways, and fit, but retains the same hardy nature as the original Hummvee and the Hummvee II that followed.

Cut to sit near the center of the knee cap (though the women's versions sit slightly higher), the new men's Hummvees play well with knee pads without flashing your thighs as you pedal. Given their heritage, it's no surprise the shorts are definitely still on the baggier side of the MTB spectrum.

Elasticated rear sections combine with a zip fly, stud fastener, and a belt for a totally secure fit, while zipped mesh vents on each thigh allow you to keep things cooler on warmer days. A reinforced section covers the seat area of the shorts which is more resistant to abrasion from muddy saddles.

There's plenty of storage with two zipped hand pockets, two Velcro-fastened cargo pockets at the bottom of each outer thigh, and two deep rear pockets that also have Velcro closure.

The new Hummvees come in eight different colorways (the shorts in our photos are Black Camo) with male and female-specific options too. Endura's Clickfast detachable liner is also part of the package.

The 2023 Hummvee shorts are available now priced at $99.99 / £69.99 / €70.09. We've currently got the shorts on test, so will bring you a full review very soon.
