ENDORSEMENT: Robert Martwick for Illinois Senate in 10th District Democratic primary

Incumbent Robert Martwick is endorsed by the Sun-Times for Illinois Senate in the 10th District Democratic primary. | Rich Hein/Sun-Times

Robert Martwick has been the incumbent in this Senate district since June, when he was appointed to replace John Mulroe, who resigned to become a judge. Prior to that, Martwick had been an informed and engaged member of the Illinois House for six years.

He has been a clear voice in Springfield for practical solutions to the state’s pension crisis, and he has pushed for increased funding for public universities as a way to reduce tuition costs.

Martwick strongly supports creating an elected school board for Chicago, which would require Springfield’s approval. He says the city’s current school board, appointed by the mayor, is “an abomination of democracy.”

If elected, Martwick says he would focus on protecting access to reproductive health care and increasing clean energy sources.

Our endorsement goes to Martwick. Also running is Chicago Police Sgt. Daniel “Danny” O’Toole, who did not participate in our endorsement process.
