If we were looking to endorse an experienced governmental technocrat, we might go with Republican Barrington Hills Village President Martin McLaughlin. He has served as chairman of the Barrington Area Council of Governments, and he’s done a commendable job as village president.
But the General Assembly in the next two years is sure to be grappling again with legislation relating to a host of important social issues, such as reproductive and LGBTQ rights. We believe Democrat Marci Suelzer, an Island Lake attorney, has a more thoughtful viewpoint on such concerns. Among Suelzer’s priorities are ethics reform, assisting small businesses, strengthening local schools, environmental protection and clean-energy jobs. Suelzer is endorsed.
This seat is being vacated by Republican David McSweeney of Barrington Hills. Also on the ballot is Green Party candidate Alia Sarfraz of South Barrington.
