Maggie Trevor came close to winning this northwest suburban seat in 2018. She lost to the incumbent, Republican Tom Morrison, by just 43 votes. She’s back again this year, and she remains the Democrats’ best bet to beat Morrison.
Trevor has the credentials to be a first-rate state representative. For the last five years, she has served the Rolling Meadows City Council as a member of its environmental committee. She advises the council and the public works department on prioritizing maintenance and restoration of the city’s natural areas. It’s no surprise that she’s strong in understanding the environmental issues facing the state.
Trevor has an impressive academic background in political science — she holds a Ph.D. in poli sci from the University of Chicago and is a former professor. And she cites her experience as a marketing and business consultant to make clear she isn’t afraid to stand up to people in power, including Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
“It is my job very often to go in and tell a CEO or executive that he’s wrong,” she told the Chicago Sun-Times Editorial Board. “I have a lot of experience talking with people in positions of power and persuading them to change course. I do it well. I know how to negotiate.”
She is endorsed over data analyst Ryan Huffman of Palatine.
