ENDORSEMENT: Froylan ‘Froy’ Jimenez for Illinois Senate in 1st District Democratic primary

Froylan “Froy” Jimenez is endorsed by the Sun-Times for Illinois Senate in the 1st District Democratic primary. | Rich Hein/Sun-Times

The people of the 1st District deserve a state senator who puts their interests first. Right now, they don’t have that.

With that in mind, our endorsement in this race goes to Chicago Public Schools social studies teacher Froylan “Froy” Jimenez.

The current state senator, Antonio “Tony” Muñoz, puts himself first. He made that clear years ago when he and a former state representative, Edward “Eddie” Acevedo, quietly sneaked through a state bill sweetening their pensions. The law allowed them to double dip by giving them credits toward their Chicago police pensions for every day they served in the Legislature. They also got credits toward legislative pensions for the exact same days. All on the taxpayer’s dime.

Aren’t you tired of this sort of thing? You can show it by voting for Jimenez, who is a local school council member at John Hancock High School. Jimenez also once served as an aide to U.S. Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, when Garcia was a state senator.
