ENDORSEMENT: Debbie Meyers Martin for Illinois House in 38th District

Debbie Meyers-Martin is endorsed by the Sun-Times in the Illinois House 38th District general election.  | Rich Hein/Sun-Times

Since being elected in 2018, Debbie Meyers-Martin has been an advocate for economic development in this struggling south suburban district.

She can cite a number of efforts she’s made to attract development, including working with local chambers of commerce, championing a south suburban airport and successfully lobbying for $15 million in state capital funding to shore up crumbling infrastructure.

Meyers-Martin also sponsored legislation to make it easier for lower-income people to open low-cost bank and credit union accounts. And she serves on Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s task force on property tax relief, a huge issue for an area that has some of the highest property taxes in the state.

Meyers-Martin formerly served as village president of Olympia Fields. She is endorsed over Republican Max Solomon, a political newcomer who ran as a Democrat in the 2018 primary that Meyers-Martin won.
