State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly, a 10-year veteran of the Illinois legislature, is endorsed for re-election.
Lilly, who is the House chair of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus, promises to make police reform a priority in the next legislative session. She also wants to focus more on improving health care statewide.
Honestly, it all sounds fine and we’d liked to have heard more. But the incumbent Democrat, who represents Chicago’s Far West Side and western suburbs, skipped our endorsement interview session because she didn’t want to appear with her Libertarian opponent, Joshua Flynn.
It was an immature move unbecoming of a seasoned politician.
Flynn did show, however. He’s a credible candidate who believes in low taxes, school choice and increased services for the formerly incarcerated. He is also, unfortunately, a political neophyte. Lilly gets the nod because of her experience and leadership in Springfield.
There is no Republican candidate in this race.
