Endo Warriors, West Lothian create March for March event

A West Lothian charity are organising a march to fund more clinical research into endometriosis.

Endo Warriors West Lothian have created ‘March in March,’ to fundraise for Edinburgh’s EXPPECT Centre for Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis.

The event challenges participants to commit to walking either 31 miles or 31 kilometres in March 2020 as part of Endometriosis Awareness Month.

As well as funding more research they also hope to raise the public’s awareness about the debilitating condition that affects one in 10 women.

There is no cure for women with pelvic pain and endometriosis, and there is an unmet need for better treatments.

Endometriosis affects an estimated 176 million women from puberty to menopause. It occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is found elsewhere - most commonly in the abdomen, on the ovaries, bladder and bowel.

This misplaced tissue behaves like the lining of the uterus, bleeding every month and creating local inflammation. It is associated with chronic pain, heavy bleeding, and infertility, and can impact on mental, and social wellbeing.

The EXPPECT team in Edinburgh aims to provide high quality, evidence-based and patient-centred management of pelvic pain and carries out pioneering endometriosis research.

No entry fee is required and those taking part can choose any location they want to do their run throughout the month of March.
