When Covid struck, the country came together to help contain the virus.
That collective spirit has now been replaced by a dangerous free-for-all because of Boris Johnson’s irresponsible actions.
The Prime Minister’s decision to end the mandatory wearing of face coverings is dangerous, confusing and illogical.
It has created a two-tier society by restricting the freedoms of the clinically vulnerable and is a recipe for confrontation between those who want to wear a mask and those who don’t.
Regional leaders in London, Manchester and elsewhere have said passengers on public transport should keep wearing face coverings.

This is especially the case when the UK recorded the highest number of daily cases for six months and vaccination uptake has slowed.
Mr Johnson has bowed to the demands of the Tory right and put the interests of his party before what is best for the country.

Care workers are exploited, under paid and forced to work gruelling hours. Many earn below the living wage, others have their wages docked for travel time or the cost of uniforms.
That is why the Mirror’s Fair Care for All campaign is demanding all carers are paid the Real Living Wage, an end to fifteen-minute visits and an increase in the carer’s allowance.
It is shameful that a profession we need the most is valued the least.
