- Endico has issued a recall for multiple bags of its frozen peas and carrots and mixed vegetables due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
- The affected products, sold in 2.5lb clear plastic bags, were distributed to local distributors in Washington, D.C., and six states, including Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, between July and August.
- The recall was initiated after sampling by the state of Pennsylvania at one of Endico’s distributors tested positive for the disease-causing bacteria.
- While no illnesses have been reported, consumers are advised to either discard the recalled vegetables or return them for a full refund, as Listeria can cause severe illness and is the third leading cause of foodborne illness death in the United States.
- This recall follows a trend of increased food recalls in 2024, with approximately 300 recalls linked to nearly 1,400 illnesses, including other recent Listeria contaminations in cheese and freeze-dried fruit products.
