Enda Stevens predicts Aston Villa will beat Derby in Championship play-off

The Ireland squad will be glued to the Championship playoff final at Wembley tomorrow from their training base in Portugal.

Aston Villa pair Conor Hourihane and Glenn Whelan go up against Richard Keogh’s Derby County with the trio set to link up with the Irish squad after their endeavours.

Stevens is well placed to call it having battled with both sides this season as Sheffield United secured automatic promotion.

He expects a tight, tense game and said: “I’ve got pals on both sides so I want a penalty shootout! Derby have players who can produce things out of nothing.

“But Villa (his former club) have been very strong in the second half of the season. I feel it will be Aston Villa, but you wouldn’t write Derby off.”

All eyes are also on today's League One playoff final where Josh Cullen's Charlton face Sunderland, after which Cullen will also join the Irish squad ahead of the double-header.
