It was a double eviction with a triple twist - three pairs of Big Brother best friends faced getting kicked out of the house tonight. You were voting to save a pair. So who lucked out and got the least saving votes? Michael and Spiral - goodbye.
As fellow BB blogger Anna Pickard rightly predicted this morning, Michael and Spiral were never gonna get many of your saving votes: "They were introduced late in the series (which is always a kiss of death) and are both really quite annoying to boot." You, wise Organ Grinder readers, seemed to agree with that character assassination, with the ThePoetsThumb writing: "Spiral the Spanner and Michael the Dipstick to go, they are insufferable."
The bookies got it right, too. William Hill had Spiral and Michael as odds-on favourites at 1/9, while Pete and Richard were at an unlikely 50/1, and Imogen and Susie were comparatively safe at 5/1.
Personally, the choice tonight was easy. Imogen and Susie spark little feelings either way, while my affection for Pete has grown steadily but surely over the series, and I would do (almost) anything to keep him inside with a chance of winning - perhaps even voting to save Richard. On Wednesday night's brilliantly edited one-hour show, Pete - alongside Glyn - proved his comic talent, making me laugh at BB for the first time in ages, while tonight, Pete broke my heart when he realised that he had forfeited his letter from home by swapping with Richard and becoming a prison guard instead of a prisoner. "That's life, it's cool," a magnanimous Pete told Big Brother while crying. "I hope they enjoy their letters."
In fact, the whole letter-reading episode on tonight's show was, as Davina put, "quite emotional" - Michael certainly thought so. And now he's going home, along with Spiral. When Davina announced the results, neither the crowd nor the housemates seemed that surprised. In all honesty, were you?
10:30pm update: Good music, Channel 4! From Erasure to Franz Ferdinand, the tunes accompanying Davina's interview with Michael and Spiral made the perfect back-drop to their revealing post-eviction chat, where both housemates were made to confront some home truths.
Spiral admitted that his pride was the cause of a lot of his rather aggressive outbursts in the house - or, to put it plainly, he was angry with Aisleyne because she didn't fancy him back.
Michael, on the other hand, who came across as quite sweet, admitted that he felt bullied by Richard - but measuredly said that while the Canadian was not his friend, he was not an enemy either.
So is that the last we'll see of the ninth and 10th housemates to be evicted from the Big Brother house, or do fame and fortune really await them?
