End of Northbourne Avenue works in sight

All north bound lanes on Northbourne Avenue will reopen from Friday. Picture: supplied

Impatient drivers can rejoice as all three northbound lanes are scheduled to open on Northbourne Avenue from Friday between MacArthur Avenue and Mouat Street.

The roadworks began on August 17, and included repairs to kerbing and storm water drains, and replacement of cracked road pavement damaged after light rail work.

Work on line marking began on October 6 and will continue until Friday, weather permitting.

Northbound traffic on the major road has been disrupted due to road upgrades and line marking, affecting drivers, cyclists and public transport users.

Until line marking ends, one northbound lane will be opened between 6am and 3pm, and two lanes of traffic will be open between 3pm and 6am with a speed limit of 40km/h.

The bike lane will reopen to cyclists however a Transport Canberra and City Services spokesperson advised the green paint on the cycle lane at the Mouat Street intersection would not be completed until early November 2020.

"Cyclists are advised to proceed with caution at that intersection," the spokesperson said.

Murdoch Street, Lyneham, which has been closed to non-residents since August, will also reopen to traffic from Friday.
