End of 'good old days' for Ringsend as community mourn loss of local legend

The inner city is in mourning this week as they grieve the loss of a local legend who died at St. Vincent’s Hospital after a short illness.

Ringsend native, Francis Murphy, was a much-loved figure in the local area and was a regular customer in O’Neill’s of Dun Laoghaire.

The pub paid tribute to Fran posting a picture of the man on a bike.

They said: “On behalf of all the owners and the staff of O’Neill’s we would like to pass the condolences to our customer Fran Murphy.

“He will be sadly missed.”

He is predeceased by his wife Doreen and sister Lera .

He has left behind a loving family- children, grandchildren, brothers, daughter-in law, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

In line with government health restrictions only 50 people can attend the man’s funeral, but others can view it via video link on Saturday 24 July at 10am.

The local people of Ringsend have been shocked by the death of one of their own.

One local said that Fran was a reminder of the ‘good old days’.

Another said: “RIP Fran! The craic with you will be missed.”
