A Newcastle Christmas-light circuit is not complete without a trip to Rick and Lisa Ciszek's house.
Since 2011, Hamilton's 113 Everton Street has annually transformed into a lit-up December wonderland of reindeers, inflatable snow globes and santas.
On Friday it sold for $3.1 million, bringing an end to one of the region's most-loved Christmas hotspots.
Mr Ciszek said his family had carried over the tradition from their previous house in Wallalong.
"We just fell into it I suppose - because it was a corner block (it worked well)," he said.
"[We've kept going] because the community and the kids liked it.
"Once I started I couldn't stop - people would be saying 'where are the lights?'."

The layout and slate roofing of the Ciszeks' new house in The Junction will make it difficult to continue the tradition on the same scale, but the years of memories will live on.
"We used to get cards from kids in the mailbox and we gave all the donations to Ronald McDonald house," Mrs Ciszek said.
"We enjoyed it."
According to CoreLogic, the circa-1917 five-bedroom, five-bathroom home marked Hamilton's first $3 million result.
It sold to a couple relocating from the Mid North Coast who have family and friends in the area.
"It was a magnificent residence - a home which was encompassed over two blocks of land totalling 1076 square metres," said selling agent Roger Ingham, of First National Newcastle City.
"I considered it to be the best house in the Hamilton postcode and it proved to get the best price ever paid in Hamilton.
"We were always very confident that this was a property that was a $3 million plus sale for the area."
The property has 100 solar panels, powering the whole home, and has a total floor area of 660 square metres across three levels.
