The Marino Mart post office will be closing at the end of July before moving down the road to a new location.
The retirement of the office's postmaster sparked its relocation, which will be opening after the August Bank Holiday in Eurospar on Annesley Bridge Road in Fairview.
Wednesday marks the last day of the beloved postmaster Gerry´s time in the role and locals have been pouring in kind words to mark his retirement.
One said: ¨Lovely fella, will be badly missed¨.
Another local commented: ¨Sad day for the post office. Gerry is a lovely man.
¨He will be well missed.¨
The new postmaster, Dereck Merrins will operate at the Marino Mart location until the new post office, just 400m away, is complete.
Commenting on the post office´s relocation, An Post spokesman Angus Laverty said: ¨ We're all set for a move to the Eurospar on Strand Road over the August Bank holiday week and due to open for business on Tuesday, August 3rd.
¨It’s a super location and around 400 metres away from Marion Mart. We will have a superb, bright, modern three counter post office up and running on that day.
¨Our former Postmaster at Marino Mart resigned from the business and we advertised the contract to provide post office services to the area.
¨The successful candidate, Dereck Merrins is one of our leading Postmasters and he will continue to operate at Marino Mart while the fit out for the new premises takes place prior to the changeover in August,¨ Laverty said.
