Fan favourites of TJ's Coffee Bar have been left saddened after it was announced that the owners are calling it a day after three decades of service.
Owners of Parnell St's greasy spoon Theresa and Johnny said that the time was right to retire after thirty years of filling the bellies and quenching the coffee thirst of people all over the capital.
The pair announced the news before Christmas in a shock Facebook post and sadly their final day in business has arrived.
In a statement on Facebook, Theresa and Johnny said: "To friends that became customers, to customers that became friends and to all who visited TJ's over the last 30 years, Johnny and I wish to let you all know we are retiring from TJ's on Saturday 18th January 2020.
"We have had a great journey with you all, followed your families down through the years, it has been a pleasure working in the north inner city with all our loyal and dedicated customers.
"We will miss you all more than you know. Looking forward to seeing you all before we head off to pastures new."
One Wexford native who found home comforts in TJ's when he moved to Dublin first many years ago said "their amazing omelettes won't be matched anywhere in the city. Sad to see you guys go."
Another regular at TJ's said: "Awh best of luck Johnny and Theresa hope you enjoy every minute of it you truly deserve it. You will be missed. Hope you will come to see us soon."
A former worker added: "I'm proud of having worked at TJ's in the summer of 2010. I have the best memories from that time and thanks to the wonderful Theresa & Johnny who made me feel welcome and special (even when I burnt toasts and prepared poor cuppas thank you guys) Enjoy your well deserved retirement.
