End of an era for Dublin as popular shop Sorelle Boutique closes its doors for good after years of business with heartbreaking statement

It's the end of an era for north Dubliners after the heartbreaking news that two popular shops have now closed in two days.

Malahide was rocked yesterday by the closure of Giovannis Pizzeria Restaurant after 30 years of business and now that will be followed by shop Sorelle Boutique.

Located on 6 Townyard Lane, the local store provided women of the surrounding areas with the latest fashion styles.

However, owners of the popular shop, Deirdre & Pauline, admitted in a heartbreaking statement that the area is "no longer what it was a few years ago".

It said: "Sorelle Boutique, Townyard Lane has closed its doors today. To all our wonderful regular customers we are very sad to say goodbye.

"We would like to say thank you so much to all of you that have supported us so well over the last ten years.

"Townyard lane is no longer what it was a few years ago, The lack of attention and development by the powers that be have caused dozens of stores to close their doors.

"We wish all our neighbours continued success and hopefully we will see you all again in the future, Deirdre & Pauline."

Hundreds flocked to the Facebook post to give their well wishes and share their sadness at the closing of the shop.

One said: "Ahhh Dee and P. You will be badly missed especially for those fabulous trousers that made me look skinny.

Another added: "Sorry to hear that, Sorelle did a great range of clothes and accessories. Will be missed."

A third said: "So sad to see you go, from at least 7 boutiques on the street down to just one! Wishing you both health & happiness. Words really fail me on this one."

Others were quick to point out the many closures in the area over the last couple of years, frightened that there would soon be nothing left.

One delivery driver in the area said: "Around Malahide and Portmarnock for the last few years. I have seen so many shops closing down. It looks like Townyard Lane is gone as a shopping area."

Another added: "It’s the same sad news in a lot of villages & towns. I’m originally from Portmarnock and have been living in Drogheda for over 20 years and there are businesses small and large closing here. Sorry to hear about another boutique closing in Malahide. I wish you all the best of luck in your future."
