End of an era: Cameron Wake agrees to terms with Titans

Today is the end of an era, Dolphins fans. In a bittersweet goodbye, Cameron Wake will bid the Miami Dolphins farewell this afternoon. He’s expected to sign with the Tennessee Titans when free agency opens today at 4PM EST.

Wake will go down as a casualty of the Dolphins’ rebuilding process, too expensive to warrant keeping around for nostalgia’s sake. And too valuable to Miami’s search for compensatory picks in 2020.

Wake is expecting to sign a 3-year contract with the Titans, worth $23M in value. Not a bad payday for a 37-year old speed rusher. Wake’s tenure with the Dolphins is one of the more inspirational stories in recent franchise history.

From undrafted and cut in from the Giants, to several years in the Canadian Football League and back, Wake has earned every cent of every dollar he’s ever earned in the NFL. 98 sacks in ten years with the Dolphins should also earn him a spot in the Ring of Honor the moment his pro career is done.

The other thing Wake has earned during his Dolphin tenure? Our utmost respect and admiration. Thank you Cameron. All the best of luck in Tennessee. Except for when you play the Dolphins, of course.
