End of an era as Dublin's 'smallest sash window' removed after 140 years

It is with great pane that we are reporting the "passing" of what is claimed to be Dublin's smallest sash window.

The 140 year old sashes, which were just off the North Circular Road, have been now replaced with a PVC frame.

While the old frame offered a tiny window into the capital's past, the newest upgrade will usher in a new era while "bestowing a quantum leap in thermal gain", according to the Dublin Civic Trust.

140 year old window on North Circular Road claimed to be Dublin's smallest sash window upgraded to a PVC frame (Dublin Civic Trust)

A funny but poignant Twitter post by the charity said: "It is with regret that we announce the passing of what we've long held to be Dublin's smallest sash window, just off North Circular Road, dating to c. 1880.

"The quantum leap in thermal gain bestowed by the PVC frame must be a sensation to behold. Rest in peace, little sashes."

The organisation added that the upgrade didn't require planning permission from the Dublin City Council as the building is not a protected structure.
