EncroChat suspect, 33, named after police swoop on address

A suspect has been named by police after an EncroChat swoop.

Gary Moffatt, of The Spinney, Stockbridge Village, was charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis and selling or transferring a prohibited weapon or ammunition.

The 33-year-old was arrested on Wednesday, November 24 and later charged with six offences: conspiracy to supply Class A controlled drugs (cocaine and heroin); conspiracy to supply a Class B controlled drug (cannabis resin); conspiracy to supply a Class B controlled drug; and two counts of selling/transferring a prohibited weapon/ammunition.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court today (Thursday, November 25).

The charges form part of the Merseyside Police response to Operation Venetic: a national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices, commonly referred to as EncroChat.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We have charged a 33-year-old man with conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis and selling or transferring a prohibited weapon or ammunition.

"Gary Moffatt, of The Spinney, Stockbridge Village was arrested yesterday (November 24) and later charged with six offences: conspiracy to supply Class A controlled drugs (cocaine and heroin); conspiracy to supply a Class B controlled drug (cannabis resin); conspiracy to supply a Class B controlled drug; and two counts of selling/transferring a prohibited weapon/ammunition.

"He was remanded in custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court today (Thursday, November 25)."
