Two Lashkar men killed in Kulgam: Police

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in an anti-militancy operation in south Kashmir’s Kulgam on Sunday.

The police identified the two slain militants as Haider, a Pakistani, and Shahbaz Shah, a local from Kulgam. The duo was trapped during a joint operation of the security forces in a pre-dawn operation in Cheyan village of Devsar area in Kulgam.

“Pakistani terrorist Haider was involved in two recent terror crimes in Bandipora, in which two policemen Mohd Sultan and Fayaz attained martyrdom. In a second incident, Special Police Officer Zubair Ahmad attained martyrdom and three security personnel, including an assistant sub-inspector of the BSF injured,” Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said.

Haider had been active in north Kashmir for more than two years and was behind several terror crimes, the police said.

IGP Kumar said the second local was involved in killing of a civilian belonging to the minority community, Satish Kumar Singh, on April 13 this year in Kakran, Kulgam.

“Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the encounter site,” the police said.
