According to an Army spokesman, two pistols, one hand grenade and three under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) grenades were recovered from the site.

The police identified the militants as Wasim Bashir Pandit and Mudasir Ahmad Khanday from Pulwama’s Kakapora and Bargam. “Both were part of groups involved in several terror crimes, including planning and executing of attacks on police and security forces,” the police said.

They said the nearest family members shall be allowed to participate in the last rites.

IGP Kumar said only five militants were active in Srinagar. “There were six active militants in Srinagar. One was recently killed in a gunfight at Anantnag’s Kokernag area. Other five local militants will be killed or apprehended soon,” he said.

IGP Kumar said a vast network of militant supporters active in Srinagar district have already been arrested and booked under the Public Safety Act. “Many are still on the police radar.”
