Two suspects in Moosewala murder case shot dead

Two suspects in the killing of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, known as Sidhu Moosewala, were killed in a heavy exchange of fire between them and the Punjab Police at Bhakna village in Amritsar on Wednesday.

Manpreet Mannu and Jagroop Roopa had been at large after the May 29 killing. Both were allegedly members of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang who worked for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in the shooting of Moosewala.

Three police personnel were injured in the encounter but were now out of danger, the police said.

Pramod Ban, Additional Director-General of Police, Anti-Gangster Task Force, said: “They both were hiding in a building [in Bhakna village near the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar] and died in an exchange of fire. The operation lasted nearly five hours and ended around 4 p.m.”

Mr. Ban said the police recovered an AK-47 rifle and heavy ammunition from the spot. A forensic team will examine a bag that was recovered.

Director-General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the police were keeping track of the suspects and following credible information.

Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead at Jahawarke village in Mansa district of Punjab on May 29, a day after his security cover was trimmed. The police, during the investigation, had identified six shooters allegedly involved in the murder. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police had earlier nabbed Priyavrat Fauji, Kashish and Ankit Sirsa.
