Earlier, a police official said: “One body, apparently of a militant, is spotted near the encounter site. The operation is on as more militants are hiding in the area.”
Officials said one soldier, who suffered injuries during the exchange of fire, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
The encounter broke out during the night when the security forces launched a search operation after a tip-off about the presence of militants at Hanjan village in Pulwama’s Rajpora area.
A joint team of the police, the Army’s 4 Rashtriya Rifles and the CRPF is carrying out the operation. “Firing, which stopped for some time on Friday morning, resumed later. The combing operation is on,” said the officials.
