Emre Can "shocked and angry" after brutal axe from Juventus Champions League squad

Emre Can has he's "shocked and angry" at his surprise omission from the Juventus Champions League squad.

The German midfielder - who came on a substitute for Liverpool in their 2018 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid - is in his second season in Turin after joining the Italian champions on a free transfer.

He played 37 times for the club last season, but has seen his place come under threat this summer following the arrivals of the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot at the club.

The 25-year-old came on as a substitute in the thrilling 4-3 Serie A victory over Napoli at the weekend, but he now won't feature when Juve kick off their Champions League campaign against Atletico Madrid in two weeks' time.

Can will also miss out on a reunion with his former club Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow in the group stages, with forward Mario Mandzukic another big name who has been left out.

Speaking from the Germany camp in Hamburg ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland over the next week, Can spoke of his disappointment at the decision from manager Maurizio Sarri.

"I am shocked and angry," he told a journalist from German outlet Spox .

"Last week, the club promised me something else, yesterday the coach called me and told me in less than a minute that I was not in the squad."

Can was linked with a move away from Juve in the summer, with a possible switch to Paris Saint-Germain as a replacement for Rabiot suggested.

But with the closure of the transfer windows across Europe he is now set to stay and fight for a place in Juve's domestic games, as he'll be unable to be selected for Champions League clashes until the new year.
