Emre Can says he left Liverpool with nothing to prove and made right choice joining Juventus

Emre Can feels he's left Liverpool to join Juventus last summer having proven himself at Anfield.

The Germany international midfielder rejected the opportunity to sign a new deal at Anfield last year and left to join Juve on a free transfer at the end of his deal with the Reds.

The incoming Fabinho and Naby Keita only increased competition for places in Liverpool's midfield and Can departed for Italy after four seasons at Anfield.

Signed by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2014 from Bayer Leverkusen for around £10million, Can made 167 appearances for the club before joining the Serie A champions last July.

And the 25-year-old says he departed Liverpool with nothing left to prove, claiming he made the right decision.

Can told DAZN: "I can still remember when I came to Liverpool. I was only 20 years old and many people in Germany said: ‘Why is he doing that now? He is only 20, it is too early to go abroad'.

"But I was sure that I could make it there. I wanted to do that and because of that I went there and looking back it was exactly the right step.

"I proved myself there like in every team I have played in until now."

Can's departure did little to disrupt the progress of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool as they get set for their second successive appearance in the Champions League final.

The Reds will meet Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid next Saturday aiming for a sixth European Cup.

For Klopp and his players it would be the perfect end to a season that saw them miss out on the Premier League title to Manchester City, despite amassing a club-record haul of 97 points.
