Empty Stella cans 'found alongside driver' who was pulled over by police on M62

Police found a pile of empty alcohol containers in the footwell of a goods vehicle seen "weaving" dangerously on the motorway.

Concerned members of the public raised the alarm after the vehicle was seen being driven erratically on the M60 and M62 towards Liverpool.

The vehicle was eventually stopped by officers of the Roads Policing Unit (RPU).

The driver was arrested after failing to provide a roadside sample, they said.

On its social media account, the RPU shared a picture of the vehicle, along with another showing a four-pack of empty Stella Artois beer cans, plus an empty beer bottle which they also found next to the driver.

In the post, they said: "Thank you to those who reported this goods vehicle weaving on the M60 & M62 towards Liverpool.

"Patrols located it passing J8 & were able to safely detain the driver as they came off at J6. The driver has been arrested for failing to provide a roadside sample at this stage."
