Empty shelves, bare walls and sale signs as Liverpool's Debenhams store prepares to close

Empty clothes rails, bare makeup counters and ‘everything must go’ signs are all that remain of Liverpool’s Debenhams store as it prepares to close.

High street retailer Debenhams confirmed yesterday that the huge store in Liverpool ONE will close its doors on May 15.

Photos inside the store today show the heartbreaking reality of what is yet another blow for the high street, with the store virtually empty of stock.

The photos show Debenhams’ cafe stripped bare, its makeup counters empty and just minimal stock left available.

The retail giant went into administration in April 2019 as it struggled to adapt to rising competition from online rivals and a decline in high street shopping .

The company announced last year it would be closing its doors and 52 stores, including Debenhams on Lord Street in Southport, have already shut.

For now, the store in Liverpool ONE remains open - but is set to shut next weekend, on Saturday, May 15.

The retailer has confirmed that its remaining 49 stores will close on either May 12 or 15 for the very last time.

Ahead of the closures, Debenhams has also announced shoppers will find unmissable discounts across all stores, with up to 80% off all fashion and homeware and up to 70% off beauty and fragrance while stocks last.

All Debenhams stores have been made Covid-secure, with appropriate hygiene and social distancing measures in place.
