The Empress Emerita left the Takanawa Imperial Residence in Minato Ward, Tokyo, to visit the Imperial Palace on Friday morning. It was her first outing in about five months.

The Empress Emerita visited the Imperial Palace with the Emperor Emeritus and received medical treatment at the Hospital of the Imperial Household.

The couple, who were both wearing masks, left the Takanawa Imperial Residence at around 10 a.m. and greeted their neighbors from their car. They arrived at the Imperial Palace about 15 minutes later.

The Empress Emerita has been refraining from going out since early April because of the spread of the coronavirus.
