Savills estate agents launches probe after employee targeted England players with racist abuse

Savills, the company who appear to employ a man that hurled racist abuse at England players, has launched an investigation.

The Three Lions lost in the final of Euro 2020 on Sunday night as Italy emerged victorious in a penalty shootout.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed from 12 yards, with the latter's failure to score sealing victory for the Azzurri.

The trio were later subjected to abuse on social media.

One of those who appeared to target the England stars works for Savills, according to his Twitter bio, although he has since changed it and deleted the racist tweet.

The estate agent has come out this morning and said: "Savills is committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity amongst our workforce. A full investigation will be carried out in regards to this unacceptable incident.

"Savills abhors and has zero tolerance to any form of racism and racial discrimination and is appalled by the racist comments in these tweets. Savills is immediately investigating and will take appropriate action"

The FA were quick to condemn the incident, insisting they were "appalled" before saying: "We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behaviour is not welcome in following the team.

"We will do all we can to support the players affected while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible.

"We will continue to do everything we can to stamp discrimination out of the game, but we implore government to act quickly and bring in the appropriate legislation so this abuse has real life consequences.

"Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse."

Social media platforms have faced increased calls to further their efforts in combating racism over the past 12 months.

Arsenal took to Twitter to support their star Saka, saying: "Football can be so cruel. But for your personality. For your character. For your bravery... We’ll always be proud of you.

"And we can’t wait to have you back with us, Bukayo Saka."

Manchester United did similarly, saying: "One kick won’t define you as a player or person, Marcus. Remember that. We look forward to welcoming you home."
