Employees evacuated after bomb threat is made at industrial estate

Employees at an industrial estate in County Durham were evacuated by police following a bomb threat.

Police were called shortly after 8.30am on Friday morning to reports of a bomb threat at Enterprise House in Spennymoor.

The Durham County Council building is home to services including the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust's affective disorders community intervention team which helps people with various mental health issues including anxiety, depression, mood disorders and personality problems.

The area of Meadowfield Avenue was cordoned off and staff were evacuated as a precaution.

Police conducted a search of the premises and confirmed there were no explosive devices in the building.

Members of staff have now been allowed back into the premises and the cordon has been removed.

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: "Police were called shortly after 8.30am this morning (May 17) to reports of a bomb threat at Enterprise House in Spennymoor.

"The area was cordoned off and staff were evacuated as a precaution.

"Police have since carried out a search of the premises and confirmed there was no explosive device in the building."
