Employee hides behind NSW pub door as shot fired by armed robber, CCTV shows

Security footage of a ram-raid at a hotel in the New South Wales town of Queanbeyan shows an armed robber firing a gun at a door while an employee hides behind it.

Just after midnight on Thursday November 15, a dark grey ute — which NSW Police believe was stolen — smashed through the doors of Hotel Queanbeyan.

The footage shows two staff members inside the pub at the time fleeing as a man approaches, with one employee attempting to hide behind a door.

The man can then be seen shooting the handle in a bid to get inside, before the employee complies and opens the door.

Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said no one was physically injured, but that these types of crimes can be traumatising for victims, often having a "lasting impact".

"Investigations into this brazen robbery are continuing, not only arrest those involved, but also to prevent harm being inflicted on an innocent member of the public," he said.

Police today released the CCTV footage in a bid to catch the "thug" robber.

"One of our greatest assets is the community and the information they provide," Detective Superintendent Doherty said.

"We are urging anyone who can assist us in identifying those involved, and help to put this thug behind bars, to come forward."

He said the car in the footage was described as a Mitsubishi Triton ute with ACT numberplates YHP50E.
