Christmas may be a time of giving, but one employee felt his workplace had taken things a bit too far after being asked to contribute to a present for the company's CEO.
Taking to Reddit, the fuming employee asked people for their opinion after refusing to give any money towards the gift.
He said: "HR is asking us to pitch in $20 for Christmas presents for the CEO and CTO.
"I just f***ing can't. That money is going to my kids, not to the fat cats at the top who make at least 5x what I make on any given month.
"Buy your own damn presents."
The employee said although he does not hate working at the company, he does take an issue with the attitude of management.
He said: "I don't hate working here, but I do hate this kind of attitude toward employees, with families, at Christmas time."
People were shocked by the post, with some finding it hard to believe that employees could be asked to pay for a gift for a higher ranking colleague or boss.
One person said: "Uh huh. And what was their Christmas gift to you??? F*** that shit. You absolutely need to put that money toward your kids!!!
"So f***ing infuriating to get those kinds of requests."
A second said: "They used to do this at my last job. Passed around a birthday card and collected money to buy the boss a new BBQ. The same boss that owned 2 houses and an airplane."
While a third said: "I worked for a company like this. The owners were driving brand new Porches and we all got a email saying to pitch in for their Christmas present. Our gift in return? A 20 page self help book they picked up in their travels abroad."
Later, the employee updated their post, saying they had not received any consequences for not contributing.
He said: "I've already told anyone with any relevance to the situation that I won't be pitching in. I haven't gotten any flack, most of them understand where I'm coming from."
