Employee charged with stealing $1.2m from bosses in 10-year spree

A female employee has been charged with stealing more than $1.2 million from two Perth companies for which she worked over a 10-year period.

The 56-year-old woman, from Landsdale in the city's north, was charged after an extensive investigation by police.

Major Fraud Squad detectives allege that between 2009 and 2014, the woman transferred more than $699,000 into her bank account while working for a company in the Perth industrial area of Malaga.

A total of 236 transactions were made to transfer the money, police say.

The woman is also alleged to have made further transfers between 2014 and 2017 — totalling more than $520,000 — while employed by a company in the industrial suburb of Wangara.

During a recent audit, the Wangara company found 153 suspicious transactions.

Neither company was named by police.

The woman has been charged with 32 counts of stealing as a servant and will appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on February 14.
